An Apple a Night...
So, if an apple a day keeps the doctor away, how about an apple at 3am in the morning??
Here's the story...
So, around 2:45am a few mornings ago, my buddy L comes into the bedroom. Wait, let me back up a bit...Before bedtime that night, L kept asking if he could "Please, Please, Pretty Pretty Please" stay up a widdle bit way-ter, please, Please, PLEASE?!? I don't know exactly why he wanted to stay up later that particular night, or what he thought he was going to do if by some chance we let him do so, but anyway- he was given a definite "No" and sent off to bed. Within minutes, he was out like a rock. Okay, back to 2:45am. So, he comes into the bedroom and, thinking he wanted to simply snuggle, I immediately said, "Come on, Buddy, wanna snuggle?" But instead of his usual 'Yes', he said, "Mama, I just want to stay up a widdle bit wonger right now, okay?" !!! What on earth??!! I told him that it was way too late (early?!) for him to stay up and that he needed to get back in bed or get into bed to snuggle with me. He didn't say much, and I fell asleep a few minutes later. Little did I know, he on the contrary did NOT fall back asleep. The next morning, Papa (who had fallen asleep out in the living room, watching a movie on the futon) informed me that at 3am or so, he was awakened by the strangest "Crunch, Crunch, Crunch" sound next to him. He rolled over to find his firstborn son sitting wide-awake next to him, crunching a full apple.
L: Hi Papa! I was hungry, so I got an apple.
Papa: Um, okay....
L: So Papa... can I watch Star Wars now?
So, needless to say, L 'got his way' and most certainly did 'stay up a widdle bit way-ter' that night, and even helped himself to a snack right out of the refrigerator!
I grabbed "Johnny Appleseed" from the library a couple days later, and I'm thinking a new nickname may be in store for my buddy, who has suddenly developed a deep love for apples. Mind you, however, he insists on eating them 'whole', with just the center part cut out!! My little Liam Appleseed! :)
Ya know, come to think of it, I never did find out if he got to watch Star Wars that night/morning... When did I suddenly get 'college-aged kids' in my house?!!?!?
