My darling oldest daughter: "Mama, your mood changes so fast. How can you do that?!"
Me: "Um.... what exactly do you mean by that?"
Darling Daughter: "Like, you can be having fun with us and then all of a sudden you can get really upset at something L or C does (note: she doesn't name herself here!), and then a second later you're back to being happy again."
Me: "Hmmm. It's probably because Mama doesn't like to get upset, and as soon as I do I feel bad about it, so I try to quickly stop being upset again. I guess you must be noticing Mama's struggle with her conscience!"
Darling Daughter: "Oh. Huh. Well, it's really amazing. Can you teach me how to do that?"
And if you don't think that made me think twice the next time I got impatient....!
